FEM Simulations

Simulations using the Finite Element Method (FEM) provide a solid foundation for decision-making and can contribute to faster development processes and fewer surprises along the way. Verifying a design or construction does not have to take long – often, a simple FEM analysis can quickly provide clear answers to critical questions in product development. FEM calculations are an effective tool for making fact-based decisions.

Why use FEM to validate a design?

FEM simulations allow the design to be tested for strength, fatigue, and safety before production begins. This reduces risk and enhances the quality of the project.

If you are investing in an expensive mold – for example, a plastic seat shell – it’s crucial to validate the design with simulations. FEM analysis evaluates geometry, wall thickness, material choice, and other critical parameters.

An FEM simulation provides precise technical data, but the ability to interpret results and convert them into concrete decisions is just as important. That’s where experience and a practical understanding of materials, loads, and construction play a vital role.

My approach to FEM simulations

I usually begin with a preliminary study to quickly identify which areas need analysis and which types of loads are most critical.

In the first phase, I focus on one material to get a clear view of the structure’s strength and behavior. After that, several materials can be compared so the final choice is based on technical data.

My approach is always step-by-step: I begin by simplifying the model with basic supports and optimized parameters to quickly verify the key concepts. Once the structural concept is confirmed, I perform detailed and accurate simulations for final design and production decisions.

What types of projects are suitable for FEM simulation?

FEM simulations are especially useful when structures need to be loaded, optimized, or validated before production. I perform simulations on a wide range of technical components – typically in the furniture industry, where strength, durability, and functionality are crucial.
